The Corlurgan Salers Herd was established in 1997 with the purchase of one incalf heifer. We expanded from there over the next few years buying more incalf heifers and cows which were selected from very good bloodlines in Ireland.
We started out on the show circuit in the year 2000 and were successful with our cow Jamaique winning Supreme Champion at the R.D.S. Spring Show in Goff’s. Later that year at Tullamore National Show Jolie was judged Supreme Champion and Corlurgan Anthony won 1st Prize in the calf section.
Ourson was purchased from the well-known Fourtet herd in France in 2001 as our first stock sire.
Ourson is well known for his muscle, growth, exceptional legs and feet and above all his excellent temperment-traits that he has passed on to his calves. Ourson is breeding beefy calves and heifers with milk.
His progeny have been successful both for us and other breeders in both the show and auction rings, winning at the highest level including numerous Champions including that at the Ploughing Championship in Autumn 2007,and achieving the top prices for both male and females.
Corlurgan Festus-a son of Ourson-was the overall male Champion at the 1st Salers National Show and Sale in Mountrath in September 2006 and his daughter Corlurgan Edel won her section in the same show.
At the subsequent sale his daughters sold for 3000 and 3600 Euros.
In March 2007 his grand son Corlurgan Ferris was the winner of the F.B.D. prize in Tully test station-one of the only 2 Salers bulls ever to achieve this honour-the other one being Lataster Eric, which was exported to France.
Lataster Georgie –a son of Ourson – was the National Male Calf Champion 2007.
Sheelin Highlight -a daughter of Ourson-was Female Champion at the 3rd National Show and Sale in Mountrath in Spring 2008.
His semen is used in Ireland, Canada and France where his progeny are highly sought after. Royalty on all pedigree calves registered.
Ourson semen is currently available through (NCBC) 00 353 (0)46 9541333.Munster A.I. and Progressive Genetics in Enfield- Phone number 1850 500 321 and 1850 20 20 50.
In 2002 we imported Corlurgan Olga.
Olga was very successful for us both as a show cow and in her progeny.
In 2003 Corlurgan Olga was 1st in Tullamore and her daughter Corlurgan Catherine won the best pair in the R.D.S. Show in Goff’s.
In 2004 Olga was Supreme Champion in Bailieboro and 1st prize winner in Virginia Show. Olga’s daughter Corlurgan Catherine won the heifer class in Goff’s in 2003.
In 2004 Catherine won Athlone, Ennis, Tullamore and was Supreme Champion in Virginia
In 2005 we purchased Ulena at the sale in Paris after the Sigmagena Show. She was the 1st prize winner in the maiden heifer section in the Paris Show.
Ulena was unbeaten in her class in Ireland in 2005. She was Supreme Champion at the National Show in Tullamore and in Virginia where she was also the Reserve Interbreed Champion.
Scorpion was the overall Salers Champion at the Simagena Show in Paris in 2005.
We bought him as a replacement stock bull for Ourson.
He is a bull with strong bone and very good legs, excellent in top line and muscle and with tremendous width in the hindquarter.
He is producing excellent bull calves, which seem to have the same characteristics as their sire but we are really pleased with his females, which at this stage seem to be exceptional.
The most recent addition to our herd is Tamise.
She was purchased at the Auction Sale after the Simagena Show in Paris in March 2007. Tamise was the Champion Female of the Show.
In the future at Corlurgan Salers we hope to improve our bloodlines by both our own breeding policy and continued purchase of top blood lines from France. At the moment we have 5 Paris Show winners on our farm and we hope to improve the quality of our herd by introduction of these new and exciting blood lines.
Finally, we at Corlurgan Salers would like to thank you for visiting our site and we look forward to seeing you at Saler events and shows throughout the coming year.
